Nagata Dance Sunday Celebration Team

brings together San Francisco’s most talented and passionate young dancers. Partnering schools, private donations, and an incredible community support allow Nagata Dance to uplift the human spirit and share the joy of dance with our community completely tuition free to each invited dancer.

Scholarships and it’s Criteria...

All scholarship dancers are recommended by a teacher, director or principal and demonstrate the following:

Dancer’s Desire:  child has expressed interest in dancing more both verbally by communicating with a Nagata Dance Faculty member and by being physically attentive and engage in all Nagata Dance classes

Dancer’s Attendance record thus far:  demonstrates family’s committment to take full advantage of this Nagata Dance opportunity to further their child’s education in dance

Dancer’s Perserverance:  Studio classes are especially challenging and great improvement is demostrated especially due to the individual focus and challenges each child is given.  It is essential that dancer’s have the ability to continue to try when presented with difficult steps or patterns of movement

Adaptablity:  Studio dancers often perform and are amongst children who do not attend their school.  Dancers must have the ability to be flexible, open and curious in new environments

  • Why was the Team created?

The Sunday Celebration Team is Nagata Dance first ever scholarship program.  Without any cost to the student, we invite them to join this exceptionally talented and enthusiastic team.  Each invited dancer has been selected by their classroom teacher and principal to represent their school and they are encouraged to pursue further dance education and performance opportunities.  With the help of our Outreach Program partner schools, private donations and incredible community support, these scholarship students gather for two hours every Sunday for dance class and choreography.  The dancers perform at various local events, sharing warmth and their passion with the San Francisco community. Nagata Dance believes that the arts are vital to children’s educations, and looks forward to expanding access and community visibility to dance through the Sunday Celebration Team.

100% Attendance and full participation is required

There is a $20 t-shirt fee and this t-shirt is part of the team uniform that the dancers must wear every Sunday and for all performances.

Water is the only beverage allowed in the Studio.  All participants are required to bring a water bottle to dance class to keep hydrated.  Please eat a large breakfast and be prepared for a hungry dancer after the class.  We will have several water breaks but no snack break.  No food is allowed in the dance studio.

Every parent is required to sign in and sign out their child.  The dance studio door will open 10 minutes prior to dance class and children will put their water bottle in the bin and find their dance name tag.  All dancers will then take off their shoes and socks and wait sitting on the stairs until class begins.  The door closes at 11 a.m.  Parents will be given the door code on the day of the orientation.

We will be at maximum capacity and will likely have to turn students away.  There will be special observation days in which parents and friends are welcomed to observe us.  These days will be announced at our orientation meeting on our first day. However, if for any reason your child needs extra support, please connect with us privately (415) 440-4849

Performance Tickets: $10 (tickets are always sold on the Sunday before the performance and on the day of the performance)
No family member will be turned away for lack of funds, however we expect to sell out both performances.  All financial arragements must be made prior to the first Celebration dance class.
